Estancia and Glaciers
Embark on a unique experience at Estancia Cristina, exploring the majesty of the Upsala Glacier and immersing yourself in the history and nature of Patagonia.
The day begins with a ground transfer from El Calafate to Puerto Punta Bandera at 7:00 am.
There, we board at 08:30 am for a fascinating navigation through the North Arm of Lake Argentino. You will enjoy panoramic views of the Upsala Glacier before entering the Cristina Arm to disembark at the historic Estancia Cristina.
During the navigation, a complimentary snack is offered.
Upon arrival at the Estancia, a specialized guide will accompany you on the selected expedition.
We offer three options to explore this remote corner of Patagonia:
1. Classic
Ideal for those who want to immerse themselves in the history and daily life of the Estancia.
Activity: Guided tour of the historic main buildings, visit to the museum, and a walk to the impressive Los Perros Waterfall.
Lunch: Included, family-style at the Estancia’s Quincho.
Difficulty Level: Low.
2. Upsala Viewpoint
An impressive experience to admire the Upsala Glacier from a privileged location.
Activity: Ascent in 4×4 vehicles to the exclusive Upsala Glacier viewpoint, followed by a short walk (approximately 15 minutes) to enjoy spectacular views of the glacier and the Southern Patagonian Ice Field. Return to the Estancia by 4×4.
Lunch: Included, family-style at the Estancia’s Quincho.
Difficulty Level: Low.
3. Fossils Canyon Trek
An option for adventurers, combining 4×4 travel and trekking through a fascinating geological landscape.
Activity: After disembarking, a 4×4 ascent to the Upsala Glacier viewpoint. From there, a trekking adventure of approximately 4 hours begins through the Fossils Canyon, a valley featuring large concentrations of marine fossils—remnants of the glacier’s passage.
Lunch: Includes a lunch box provided by the Estancia.
Restrictions: Minimum age 12 years old.
Difficulty Level: Medium–High. Good physical condition required.
General Information (All Options)
What to bring: Sunglasses, sunscreen, comfortable and warm clothing, sun hat, waterproof jacket, gloves, trekking boots.
Lunch: Included.
Not included: Entrance fee to Los Glaciares National Park. Transfers available upon request.
Frequency: Daily. Operates from July 15 to May 31.
Duration: Approximately 12 hours.
Cancellation Policy: A 100% penalty applies for cancellations made less than 7 days prior to the excursion.
