SOUTHERN GLACIER PIONEERS

This is an excursion that visits the Perito Moreno Glacier in a unique way. It is a tour accessible to everyone, where activities and lunch at the ranch, navigation and arrival at the Perito Moreno glacier from an exclusive location are combined.

We will leave from El Calafate along Route 15 (the route of the ranches) towards Estancia Nibepo Aike. On the way, we will discover the secrets of the steppe, the productive history of the region and we will stop to observe some cave paintings of ancient settlers.

Once at the ranch, we will participate in the sheep herding and shearing activities, and in the demonstration of Creole skills performed by the ranch’s guauchos. At noon, we will have lunch with the typical spit-roasted lamb in the ranch’s barbecue area.

Then, we will go to the pier to begin our navigation towards Playa de las Monedas crossing the Rico Arm of Lake Argentino, always with a view of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Upon disembarking, we will take a 20-minute walk through the forest until we reach a viewing point from where we can see the south face of the Perito Moreno Glacier.

We will continue our navigation until we are in front of the south wall of the glacier and enjoy a glass of whiskey or vodka distilled in El Calafate with ice from the glacier.

Finally, we will disembark at Bajo la Sombra Port, where our vehicle will be waiting to take us to the walkways for 2 hours.

After having travelled all the walkways, we will begin our return to El Calafate along the traditional paved Route 11.

Frequency: daily. Operates from October to April.

Duration: 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

What to bring?: sunglasses, sunscreen, comfortable and warm clothing, waterproof jacket, gloves, hiking boots.

Included: lunch.

Not included: entrance to the national park.

Cancellation policy: cancellation of the service is allowed without charges up to 72 hours before the date of the activity. Cases of force majeure duly documented (modification or cancellation of flights) or certified medical reasons.

No show: in case of not taking the service on the date, time and place agreed, 100% of the cost of the excursion will be charged as cancellation fees.
