Walk on the Perito Moreno Glacier

TOUCH THE GLACIER WITH YOUR HANDS

Depart from El Calafate for Bajo de las Sombras port, located eight km before Perito Moreno Glacier. Once there, you will embark to cross Rico branch of the lake, and disembark at the southwestern coast after 20 minutes of navigation.
Then, you will access a refuge, where the guides organize the groups of up to 20 people, and soon a walk by the forest begins to arrive at the glacier. Before accessing the ice, the guides will put the crampons on your shoes. The trekking on the glacier takes approximately one hour and a half during which you will be able to see crevasses, moulins (glacier mills) and small lagoons. The walk difficulty is moderate, on irregular ice surface, but firm and safe. Return to the port by boat includes an up-close view of the glacier face.

What to bring? Sunglasses, sun block, comfortable clothes, windbreaker, waterproof jacket, gloves, trekking shoes and box lunch.

Included: transfer to the port and return to El Calafate with a visit to walkways area in front of the glacier. Not included: National Park entrance fee, box lunch, clothes, or personal equipment.

Duration: 7 am to 7 pm.

IMPORTANT

Limitations: This excursion, due to the degree of effort and difficulty it presents, is only suitable for people between 8 and 65 years old.
Overweight people should NOT participate; For this purpose, those that exceed the following criteria will be considered as such: Weight in kg greater than twice the height in cm minus 100 (for example, for a height of 1.70m: 170 minus 100 = 70 x 2 = 140); pregnant women; people with any degree or type of physical or mental disability that affects their attention, gait and/or coordination; people who suffer from central or peripheral cardiovascular diseases, whose cardiac or vascular capacities are diminished, or who use stends, pacemakers or other prostheses; (for example: medication with anticoagulants, grade III varicose veins – those that are thick and multiple -, cardiac arrhythmias); people who suffer from diseases that cause respiratory disabilities (COPD, asthma, emphysema, etc).-
