Tour our city
This tour of El Calafate invites you to discover the origins of this city, appreciate some of the most important historical sites, talk about the first settlers and enjoy the natural places of the city.
It begins with a visit to the Walichu Caves, an archaeological site 8 km from El Calafate. There, we will take a short 500 m walk along the eaves and caves to observe original and reproduction cave paintings. The guide will tell us about the techniques they used, how to interpret them and everything related to the Tehuelche culture.
We will continue our tour walking through the streets of the old part of the town (Calafate Viejo), observing the first constructions of the pioneer settlers and their customs. We will travel back in time and imagine how El Calafate went from being a wagon post to one of the most important tourist towns in the country.
We continue our tour along the coastal promenade and the Bahía Redonda, a few meters from the coast of Lake Argentino, where you can observe the abundant local birdlife.
We will visit the Historic Interpretation Center of El Calafate, where through a self-guided tour we will be able to observe the most important historical events from the glaciations to the present.
