CAÑADÓN EXPERIENCE
A little explored corner of the steppe.
Calafate stream ravine
Cañadon Experience is a medium-difficulty trek that allows us to walk along the Calafate stream bed until we reach the Estancia 25 de Mayo. The hills that surround us form a canyon that invites us to discover it and enjoy the stream, always sheltered from the wind that the valley offers.
We will leave El Calafate in 4×4 vehicles. After a 3 km journey, we will reach the starting point of our trek that has a distance of 7 km, a duration of 3 hours and has a gradient of 400 m.
While we cross canyons and streams, we will walk through the valley that will take us into unexplored landscapes of Patagonia. During the walk, we will see a large number of birds, river trout and flora characteristic of the steppe.
The geological formations that contain marine fossils show us that the environments we travel through have changed over the years. Our arrival point is an old outpost of the Estancia 25 de Mayo called “La Sección” where they will wait for us with lunch or dinner in an authentic Patagonian house at 800 m.a.s.l. This outpost was used by the baquianos when they worked with cattle in these remote places.
Once we have finished the meal, we will continue our descent towards El Calafate.
